Independent judgement when the results aren’t moving as they should

I’m usually brought in to provide an independent view on what’s really happening... and what needs to change.

Why experience at this level matters

There is no shortage of advice available. What is harder to access is experience of having held full accountability in complex, regulated environments.

My background spans both the public and private sectors, including as Chief Executive of a large unitary authority with responsibility for services of around £700m per year.

That combination matters. It brings an understanding of how governance, commercial reality, and operational delivery interact in practice - including the need to balance public accountability with financial discipline, commercial judgement, and sustainable performance.

This is where I now focus my work.

This is the thinking that underpins the Blueprint for Intentional Systems.

How I work

I am not applying a model.

I work alongside boards and senior leaders to understand what the organisation is actually producing, not just what it intends.

That means understanding how decisions are made, how work flows, and how governance, process and performance interact in practice.

The aim is not more activity, but better judgement and clearer decisions about what needs to change.

If you need an independent, experienced view before making a significant decision, feel free to get in touch.
