Independent judgement at board level when results aren’t moving as they should.

I am usually brought in where performance, direction, or accountability are unclear, and where internal perspectives are no longer enough to see what is really happening.

This is not about advice in the abstract. It is about helping boards and senior leaders understand what the organisation is actually producing, and what needs to change.

WHEN I AM BROUGHT IN

There are points where experience from inside the system is no longer sufficient.

Typically, that is when:

  • activity is high but outcomes are not improving

  • significant change or restructuring is being considered

  • governance concerns or accountability gaps are emerging

  • strategy feels clear, but delivery does not follow

  • leaders need independent challenge before making consequential decisions

These are not failures of effort. They are usually signals that the system is not producing what is intended.

WHAT I DO

I work alongside boards and senior leaders to provide independent perspective, challenge, and clarity.

That means looking beyond reporting and stated intent, and focusing on how decisions are actually made, how work flows, and how governance, process, and performance interact in practice.

The aim is not more activity. It is better judgement.

That often involves:

  • helping boards see where performance is really being created or constrained

  • testing assumptions that have become accepted but unexamined

  • clarifying the link between strategic intent and operational reality

  • supporting more grounded, defensible decision making

The work is practical, not theoretical. It is rooted in how organisations behave under pressure, not how they are designed on paper.

HOW I WORK

I am not applying a model or programme.

I work with what is there — the organisation as it is, not as it is described — and focus on understanding the conditions that are shaping outcomes.

That includes how purpose is interpreted, how people are led, how processes actually operate, and how performance is defined and measured.
